Let’s take a moment to praise Claire Danes who’s celebrating her 33rd birthday today! And without whom, there would be no patron saint for the Ally and Joanna Show.
Can you imagine a world without My So-Called Life? Without Homeland or the Temple Grandin movie? How would I live without Stardust? Could I have passed eighth grade without watching her in Romeo + Juliet? And without Ms. Danes, who would get Hugh Dancy into the Emmys or Golden Globes?
Thanks for being such a slamming actress. You consistently bring it and make TV challenging, edgy and engaging. Thanks for crying on screen without fear of looking bad. And most of all, thanks for My So-Called Life.
Oh Angela Chase, we love thee. So, so much. Have the happiest of birthdays! -A

Remember in February when we discussed the controversy surrounding Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue? To recap, actresses of color are continually pushed aside or left off the cover all together.
Here is the cover and one photospread from Vanity Fair’s TV Issue. Two things are clear. First, I’m sick of seeing actresses grace the cover of magazines in nothing but sheets. Second, television far surpasses the film industry in terms of supplying roles for women and embracing actresses of color as leading ladies.
By producing a cover story dedicated to the wonders of television, Vanity Fair has coyly acknowledged the complaints about the Hollywood issue and the film industry as a whole. So, kudos to you Vanity Fair.
Emphasizing the problems with Hollywood is one thing, but does this actually change anything and what comes next?
Answers: No and who knows.
